Excellent article Chip. Sometimes I use the term " creative persistence" which entails getting oneself in front of people again with added value or additional agenda that enhances the initial communication. It is never an easy dance ... combining the virtues of patience and persistence, but those who practice both, are much more marketable and find positions easier than those who let frustration and set backs color their overall intention. Of course there will be moments of depression and frustration, but your article helps the reader try to balance that with multiple things in the works( even not such promising leads are better than stewing in the juice of inertia and despair).

You are very wise is stating that job search is a sustained self promotion activity that comprises
good attitude, confidence, preparedness, clarity of focus, and understanding that sometimes it's 'business/ not personal" when the brick wall hits. That frees one to to see the "other" (i.e. hiring manager, recruiter, mentor, networking contact) as not necessarily rude, dismissive or even all -powerful, but simply involved in covering their own business agenda with limited time and resources. Therefore strategizing ways to hang in there for the duration, revisiting contacts with real value added contributions, seeing networking as truly a 2-way street, is an excellent way to use the power of the Five O Clock Club branch and phone groups.
